The 3 Positions of ‘I’ (and a Bonus Position)

De boom van het leven

The tree of life

In the dream of ‘I,’ we can distinguish three positions where the ‘I’ is located or established. Additionally, there is a bonus position (Position 0), where the ‘I’ disappears, and no one realizes there ever was an ‘I.’

Each position creates a completely different experience. The closer the ‘I’ is to the source (Position 1), the more peace and happiness are experienced. This is because your essential nature is peace and happiness.

The more you continue to recognize what you truly are, the more peace and happiness you experience. However, most people spend significant time in Position 3 (the person), which often causes restlessness and discomfort.

Would you like to spend more time in Position 2 or 1? Use these powerful hypno-tools:

The 3 Positions of ‘I’ (and a Bonus Position)

We can say that:

  • Position 3: Fully zoomed in, deeply hypnotized in the persona. You experience yourself as “I am (your name).”
  • Position 2: Zoomed out, with the realization that you are individual consciousness, your heart. You experience: “I am.”
  • Position 1: Fully zoomed out, recognizing that you are the only ‘I’: Universal Awareness or the Universal Heart. You experience: “I.”

The more your attention is zoomed out, the less limited and the more expansive your consciousness becomes.

Position 3: “I am (your name)”

  • The dream of: “I am (your name),” characterized by your intellect and ego.
  • Intent is directed by hypnotic programming shaped by others early in life (e.g., parents).
  • Your role as a character in the movie of life.
  • Focused on the ‘not here’ and ‘not now’: imaginary future or past.
  • A persona on the screen, like a drop of water in the sea of life.
  • The leaves of the tree of life, far from the source.
  • Lived freedom is limited by conditioning and perceptions.
  • This position often brings restlessness and struggle.

Position 2: “I am”

  • The dream of: “I am,” with the realization of oneness despite apparent separation.
  • Intent revolves around life experiences and themes such as self-realization, self-love, and disillusionment.
  • Your role as a conscious actor in the movie of life.
  • Established in the ‘here and now’ as a focal point within yourself.
  • An individual holographic screen within the larger 3D holographic screen of Awareness, like an ice cube in the sea.
  • The branches and leaves of the tree of life, closer to the trunk.
  • Limited and unlimited freedom coexist here, depending on perspective.
  • This position offers greater inner peace and harmony than Position 3 because this position is inner peace and harmony.

Position 1: “I”

  • The dream of: “I,” characterized by Universal Awareness and the Universal Heart.
  • Without intent, as Awareness is purely observational in nature.
  • Your role as the entire movie of life, including all characters and events.
  • Established in the ‘here and now’ everywhere and simultaneously, without a focal point.
  • A boundless holographic screen, like the water of the sea of life.
  • The entire tree of life: trunk, branches, and leaves.
  • Infinite freedom to realize and perceive, with no limitations.
  • This position brings profound peace and a sense of unity.

Position 0: No ‘I’

  • The illusion of ‘I’ disappears, and no one awakens because there is no ‘I.’
  • There is no intent, as there is no one to have intentions.
  • Nothing remains except ‘what is not’ and ‘what is,’ seemingly the nothing that becomes ‘something.’
  • No ‘here’ and no ‘now,’ as there is nothing to be anywhere.
  • The nothing that appears as ‘something,’ without truly existing.
  • The source of everything, without substance: the nothing from which all seems to arise.
  • Infinite and unlimited freedom for no one in the nothingness.
  • This position transcends all experience and can only be pointed to indirectly.

Summary of the 3 Positions of ‘I’: Key Insights

Position 3: “I am (your name)”

  • The most limited state of consciousness, fully identified with the persona or ego.
  • You experience yourself as a separate individual shaped by conditioning and perceptions from your environment.
  • Life is experienced through limitations and duality, focused on the past and future.
  • Key insight: This position is an illusion, a role in the movie of life, which can feel limiting but is essential for the play of duality.

Position 2: “I am”

  • The shift begins here, toward individual consciousness: the realization that you are more than your ego and conditioning.
  • You recognize yourself as a focal point of Awareness, gathering experiences in the ‘here and now.’
  • This position offers a balance between limited and unlimited freedom, depending on how you view it.
  • Key insight: This is the space where you can explore your heart and soul, live through themes, and experience inner harmony.

Position 1: “I”

  • The universal perspective, where you recognize yourself as the Awareness in which everything appears, happens, and disappears.
  • You no longer see life as a separate experience but as a whole that you are.
  • Freedom here is infinite, as there is no longer identification with limiting concepts or roles.
  • Key insight: This is the state of unity, where you experience total peace and connection with everything.

Position 0: No ‘I’

  • The absolute nothing, where even the idea of ‘I’ vanishes.
  • Only the apparent illusion of something remains, arising from nothing.
  • Here, there is no goal, no intention, no somewhere or sometime—only what is and what is not.
  • Key insight: This transcends all experience or duality and cannot be understood by the mind. It is the source of all, where nothing appears as something.

Essential Lesson from the 4 Positions

The process of awareness is like zooming out from your perspective: from the limited, conditioned persona (‘I am (your name)’) to the infinite freedom of Awareness (‘I’) and ultimately the nothingness. The further ‘you’ zoom out, the more freedom, peace, and unity you experience. Yet every position is an integral part of the dream of life, with each level offering its unique value and insight.
